Best Hair Relaxer

Q: What is the best hair relaxer?

A: That’s a very good question! Well, what one person may consider the best hair relaxer, someone else may hate. So before I tell you my personal favorite, let’s take a look at the factors to consider:

Price: For some people, price can play a big part when they’re choosing a relaxer. Some people don’t have the money or they simply don’t think their hair is worth spending money on. It’s perfectly fine to have this viewpoint, but if that is the case, you will probably be left disappointed.

The best ones have invented special formulations using natural ingredients, which of course cost more. So if you truly want the best hair relaxers, don’t let price be a determining factor. Remember, there’s no reason why you don’t deserve the best!

Effectiveness: For people with fine, delicate hair that are just trying to straighten out some waves or lose curls, they probably only need a mild formulation. However if you’re like me, you have extremely tight curls that are also a frizz nightmare! So for me personally, the mild hair relaxers have absolutely no effect on my hair… even when I leave them on for the maximum recommended time. This is why for me, the best hair relaxer has to be strong enough to get the job done, yet mild enough so I don’t have side effects.

Ingredients: Most of us are all too familiar with lye based hair relaxers. If you’re not, it’s a caustic chemical that has the potential to cause a bunch of nasty side effects, like losing your hair and chemical burns to the skin. For a long time this was the only option people had if they wanted a relaxer that worked.

Fortunately, the advancements in hair care science have came quite a ways from the days of your parents and grandparents. Today there are gentler, lye-free formulations which often have a lower risk of side effects when used properly. Most recently, there was even a hair relaxer developed that uses egg and soy as its active ingredient to straighten the hair! (we’ll talk more about that one in a moment.

What is the best hair relaxer for YOU?
So based on these three pieces of criteria… which one(s) are most important to you? Like I mentioned, if price is the determining factor, it will be hard to find a product that also meets the other two. If you want one that uses the best ingredients and is also effective, unfortunately it will cost you a little more.

What is my favorite hair relaxer?
Personally, my favorite hair relaxer is called Phytospecific. It comes in two strengths and I like the second one (Index #2) since my hair is so curly and thick. What I love so much about this product is that it is not only extremely effective, but it also uses natural ingredients like egg and soy extract. What’s even better is that it leaves hair silky and smooth instead of overly-processed like other relaxers do. In my opinion this is by far the best hair relaxer currently on the market!
